Faith and Fasting

Hi everyone in continuation of my last post on prayer and fasting, I would be focusing more on the fasting aspect of the topic in general. I feel that too little was written about it in the last post and that fasting is the type of topic that most Christians tend to subconsciously avoid. I mean, you can’t blame anyone for that, it’s not as if fasting is as easy as taking a walk through the park, nevertheless our lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth fasted when he was here on earth for forty days and nights and with further research in the Scriptures(Bible) it becomes obvious that as a christian who wants to thread on that part of salvation with dominion, one can’t help but go through with it. So why don’t we find out what this fasting is all about and why one should bother with it.

When the topic of fasting is brought up, am guessing that most people, automatically imagine a self imposed hunger strike for reasons unfathomable to some. Why did I use the phrase “unfathomable to some”, well for instance! Just take your time to sit and try to analyze fasting in a Logical and intelligent way like most people would do. I am fairly sure that you would come to the conclusion, that it makes absolutely no logical sense at all, to deprive ones body of the required nutrients it needs to function or depriving oneself of his or her pleasures, going through all that stress when one has no need for the loss of weight or any other pending issues that require not eating or staying clear of ones usual pleasures for a time.

I guess this creates a sort of dilemma trying to see reason in fasting or anything Christ related, while analyzing it in a logical and intelligent way. However this dilemma is easily solved by simply switching off ones logical, grownup mindset and approaching Our Lord Jesus Christ with a childlike mindset, that’s having no set structures in ones mind of what is and isn’t possible, open to believe all, and inquisitive to learn more, so in short terms the kind of childlike mindset that would still believe that father Christmas exists. This is explained better in the book of Matthew chapter 18 verse 2-4:

2 And Jesus called a little child

unto him, and set him in the midst

of them,

3 And said, Verily I say unto you,

Except ye be converted, and become

as little children, ye shall not enter

into the kingdom of heaven.

4 Whosoever therefore shall humble

himself as this little child, the same

is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

In my opinion logic and faith don’t go together for logic(the knowledge and experience that has been gathered by men) tells you that if you throw a stone up the force of gravity will pull it down, it tells you that if you are sick you should go to be treated medically,if whatever one has can’t be treated, then one knows that he or she is in deep shit, Logic also helps us set up boundaries on which of our goals are realistic, human logic also tells you that Miracles do not exist.

However faith in our Lord Jesus Christ is on a whole different level; faith tells you that in Christ all things are possible, that all illnesses are heal-able in the name of Jesus Christ, it tells us that we serve a God of impossibilities, that with Christ there is no mountain that is insurmountable and that the Spirit of God within you is greater than all the powers that are out there.

So in my opinion this boils to deciding between two parts in a crossroad, either being the Logical intelligent wise guy which is not a Crime or being the wired, different guy who nobody seems to understand.

However keep in mind that worldly knowledge and wisdom at the end of the day amount to vanity and foolishness before our Father in heaven. first Corinthians chapter 1 verse 18-19 explains this better:

18 For the preaching of the cross is

to them that perish foolishness; but

unto us which are saved it is the

power of God.

19 For it is written, I will destroy

the wisdom of the wise, and will

bring to nothing the understanding

of the prudent.

I’m sure you guys are already wondering what all this talk about faith and Logic have to do with fasting. To break it down I believe that fasting requires faith in Christ to bring forth results, I believe that to the Logical and intelligent of this world, fasting in Christ, would seem foolish, unnecessary and outdated but to those christian who actually believe in Christ Jesus and in the end time as stated in the book of Revelations, we can’t afford not, but to be of good courage and engage in fasting because as it is stated in the bible text below “But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise;

1 Corinthians chapter 1 verse 27-28:

27 But God hath chosen the foolish

things of the world to confound the

wise; and God hath chosen the weak

things of the world to confound the

things which are mighty;

28 And base things of the world,

and things which are despised, hath

God chosen, yea, and things which

are not, to bring to nought things

that are:

It is through faith based actions like fasting in Christ that one can subdue his own fleshly lusts/desires. and allow the Spirit of God to have complete dominion over ones body and and soul hereby keying into the spirit and accessing that which our Father in Heaven has in stock for one that eyes have not yet seen and ears have not yet heard. As is written in 1Corinthians chapter 2 verse 9:

9 But as it is written, Eye hath not

seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered

into the heart of man, the

things which God hath prepared for

them that love him.

Hope you had a good and revealing time reading this Blog. I intend to continue on this topic as soon as possible. Remain blessed in Jesus name, Amen.

Prayer and fasting

Hi there everyone! by now its quite obvious that the topics which are shared on this Blog have to do with Christ and how to be more Christ like. Therefore lets ponder together on praying and fasting.

I’m quite aware that this Blog is sort of an amateurs work and that there are loads of articles, blogs and sermons which have done more Justice to some of the topics I have written on or am yet to write on so I would implore you, that’s if your interest has been aroused, to read up further on various Christ related articles or even better, to search the scriptures(Bible) and get the word directly from the fountain of life.

Now then, back to prayers and fasting. One can’t talk of being Christ like with out mentioning or talking of the need to pray and fast. The Bible shows us that our lord Jesus Christ even though he was the son of God was lead by the Holyspirit to go in to serious praying and fasting for forty days and nights before he started his ministry. The scriptures also shows us that our lord Jesus Christ was always secluding himself to Pray.

So then, I ask myself. If our Lord Jesus Christ the Son of God, in whose name all knees will bow and all tongues will confess, saw the need to always pray and fast, then how much less do we sinners, normal people like you and I, need to pray and fast. I believe the need is great. The Bible further states in the book of 1-Corinthians chapter 16 verse 9:

9 For a great door and effectual is

opened unto me, and there are many

adversaries.

Now in my opinion the “Great and effectual” door here represents an opportunity, a blessing, a talent, a challenge, a dream etc. on the other hand am sure, we all can guess that the “adversaries” refers to the obstacles, challenges that one has to face in the processes of overcoming. However in my opinion the Bible explains this explicitly in the book of Ephesians chapter 6 verse 10-18:

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong

in the Lord, and in the power of his

might.

11 Put on the whole armour of

God, that ye may be able to stand

against the wiles of the devil.

12 For we wrestle not against flesh

and blood, but against principalities,

against powers, against the rulers of

the darkness of this world, against

spiritual wickedness in high places.

13 Wherefore take unto you the

whole armour of God, that ye may be

able to withstand in the evil day, and

having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having your

loins girt about with truth, and having

on the breastplate of righteousness;

15 And your feet shod with the

preparation of the gospel of peace;

16 Above all, taking the shield of

faith, wherewith ye shall be able to

quench all the fiery darts of the

wicked.

17 And take the helmet of salvation,

and the sword of the Spirit, which is

the word of God:

18 Praying always with all prayer

and supplication in the Spirit, and

watching thereunto with all perseverance

and supplication for all saints;

Now from the above Bible text we can see that a Christians true adversaries, obstacles aren’t ones neighbours or that person who seems to hate one with all his guts and is working against one in one way or the order. A Christians adversaries are principalities and powers, rulers of darkness in this world and spiritual wickedness in high places.

Now reading the above I’m sure that it might look like the next big fantasy story that am writing about, but remember that the word of God is ye and Amen and it’s also written in the book of John chapter 1 verse 1:

1 In the beginning was the Word,

and the Word was with God, and the

Word was God.

Back to the main topic. That’s why I believe that there is great need of Prayers and fasting for a Christian who intends to overcome. The Bible further highlights this in the book of st. Luke chapter 18 verse 1-8:

1 And he spake a parable unto

them to this end, that men ought always

to pray, and not to faint;

2 Saying, There was in a city a

judge, which feared not God, neither

regarded man:

3 And there was a widow in that

city; and she came unto him, saying,

Avenge me of mine adversary.

4 And he would not for a while:

but afterward he said within himself,

Though I fear not God, nor regard

man;

5 Yet because this widow troubleth

me, I will avenge her, lest by her

continual coming she weary me.

6 And the Lord said, Hear what the

unjust judge saith.

7 And shall not God avenge his

own elect, which cry day and night

unto him, though he bear long with

them?

8 I tell you that he will avenge

them speedily. Nevertheless when the

Son of man cometh, shall he find

faith on the earth?

Now that we have established the need for prayers and seen that continual prayer brings about fruits speedily. One more question crops up, which is: “what kind of prayer is acceptable unto God and actually gets to our father in heaven”. This is quiet a broad topic which one can write a lot on.

Therefore, lets keep it short and highlight in my opinion the most important aspect, which is praying to God with ones whole heart in truth and in spirit with meekness and understanding having faith that our lord Jesus Christ is capable of doing all things. The book of st. Luke Chapter 18 verse 9-14:

9 And he spake this parable unto

certain which trusted in themselves

that they were righteous, and despised

others:

10 Two men went up into the temple

to pray; the one a Pharisee, and

the other a publican.

11 The Pharisee stood and prayed

thus with himself, God, I thank

thee, that I am not as other men are,

extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or

even as this publican.

12 I fast twice in the week, I give

tithes of all that I possess.

13 And the publican, standing afar

off, would not lift up so much as his

eyes unto heaven, but smote upon

his breast, saying, God be merciful

to me a sinner.

14 I tell you, this man went down

to his house justified rather than the

other: for every one that exalteth

himself shall be abased; and he that

humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Also it is written in the book of st. Mark chapter 11 verse 23-26:

23 For verily I say unto you, That

whosoever shall say unto this mountain,

Be thou removed, and be thou

cast into the sea; and shall not doubt

in his heart, but shall believe that

those things which he saith shall

come to pass; he shall have whatsoever

he saith.

24 Therefore I say unto you, What

things soever ye desire, when ye

pray, believe that ye receive them,

and ye shall have them.

25 And when ye stand praying, forgive,

if ye have ought against any:

that your Father also which is in

heaven may forgive you your trespasses.

26 But if ye do not forgive, neither

will your Father which is in heaven

forgive your trespasses.

Thanks a lot for reading, hope that I have been able to highlight the need for Praying and fasting in ones life and the sought of prayer which brings about results.

Remain blessed in Jesus name, Amen.

Salvation

Hi readers, hope you all had a splendid year 2013. We are at the start of a fresh year full of expectations and challenges which brings about unknowns. Definitely, for some, the year 2014 will be wonderful and progressive while for others, well, it’s not going to be that progressive but just the same old, same old. However this year has something in common for everyone, that is:The going is going to get tougher and its only the tough that will overcome and have something positive to report afterwards.

Now, this Blog is all about salvation, why I think its necessary and how one can attain salvation in my opinion. I believe that there is a God, that our Lord Jesus Christ is the son of God, was sacrificed on the cross of Calvary for the forgiveness of sin, and is the only true part to salvation. The Bible explains this in the Book of st. John chapter 5 verse 19-29:

19.Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.

20.For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.

21.For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.

22.For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:

23.That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.

24.Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

25.Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.

26.For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself;

27.And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.

28.Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,

29.And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

Salvation for me is being able to overcome. Making it to heaven, gaining everlasting life, running the good race and then at the end of the day possessing ones crown of glory. Now there are loads of other words or phrases that can be used to describe salvation. So one can’t help but ask, how does one make it to heaven. A similar question was asked to our Lord Jesus in the book of st. Luke chapter 10 verse 25-28:

25.And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying, “Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”

26.He said unto him, “What is written in the law? How readest thou?”

27.And he answering said, “‘Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind, and thy neighbor as thyself.’”

28.And He said unto him, “Thou hast answered right; this do, and thou shalt live.”

From the Bible text above we can see that salvation and Gods love go hand in hand (To read more on Gods love please refer to the Blog titled “Gods love”). In the Bible Jesus also referred to the choice between heaven and hell as the choice between two parts. Matthew chapter 7 verse 13-14:

13.Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

14.Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

In the Bible the part to salvation is described as a narrow way while the part to destruction is described as a broad way. When I think of the part to salvation I imagine a sort of steep, winding, mountainous part which one has to thread alone with fear and trembling of our lord Jesus in order not to fall of, while I imagine The part to destruction as a wide express road which one can thread on easily even in groups if one prefers, side by side with others. I believe also that salvation is a personal thing between ones self and our Lord Jesus Christ. This in my opinion translates into always choosing to do the right thing irrespective of what the consequences maybe or what others around you may be thinking or doing. This means choosing the harder and not the easy way out cause it’s never easy to do the right thing.

Well from what I have just stated about the part to salvation. It would seem that doing the right thing seems so very difficult with no fun to it, and for some it even seems to be humanly impossible. However being able to thread on this narrow part of salvation doesn’t require any super human abilities neither does it mean that one is going to live a miserable life with no fun to it. The Bible further explains this in the book of st. John chapter 15 verse 1-11:

1.I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.

2.Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

3.Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.

4.Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

5.I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

6.If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

7.If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

8.Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

9.As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.

10.If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.

11.These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

In my opinion the Bible text above explains that to be able thread on the narrow part of salvation simply requires one to abide in Christ, with the fear of God, submitting ones self totally to the guidance and leading of the Holyspirit. This in turn brings about everlasting life and joy in Christ with the blessings of God that addeth no sorrow.

That’s why I would advice everyone to take salvation seriously and always choose to do the right thing being lead by the wisdom of God. It may seem difficult at first but just know that doing the right thing and taking the harder way out at the long run always brings about a far more greater reward than one could have ever received by doing the wrong thing and taking the easy way out.

May the blessings of God be with you and the Holyspirit abide with you in Jesus name, Amen.

On Wisdom and Understanding

Well, first of all before I start sharing my thoughts on Wisdom, I would like you to just sit back and think of all the interesting and exciting dreams you’ve always had, about how wonderful your future will turn out to be. I’m not talking about the realistic mature goals you’ve set for your self after weeks or even months of deliberation. I’m referring to the dreams you would hear an innocent Child describing, who has absolutely no idea of the Challenges he or she has to Overcome to be victorious or successful as the case maybe.

I’ve realize that, as the mind matures and loses the innocent mindset of a child, these crazy childlike dreams keep fading away till one gets to a point where one just wants to become someone who’s comfortable and makes as much money as one can to live the good life which involves having a stable Job and earning enough money to be comfortable. I think the society calls this process maturing, facing the facts of life. This is natural and something everyone has to do at one stage in life or the other.

However there are those who mature, get to face the difficulties and temptations of life, yet they do not lose sight of their dreams, ambitions, or their childlike mindset which has no boundaries, which do not take no for an answer or let their present conditions dictate to them how they are to behave or what to strive for. Am talking about those who strive for greatness. If you are such a person then know that you are the one that am really trying to reach out to.

Unfortunately most people that tread on this part get either disappointed, distracted or frustrated. That’s why I want to share my opinion on the Importance of wisdom if one strives for true greatness. Its possible to have all the money in the world being accomplished with loads of titles and so on and yet be unfulfilled. This is because the world we live in is filled with vanities upon vanities as stated by the preacher in the book of Ecclesiastes chapter 1vers 2:

Vanity of vanities ,saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities: all is vanity.

Also it is written in the book of Matthew chapter 16 verse 26:

For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

Therefor the greatness I strive for is the sought, that comes from the Lord, as described in the book of Proverbs chapter 10 verse 22:

The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.

I believe that the first step one should take in accessing the Lords Blessings is getting Wisdom and understanding as explained in the book of Proverbs chapter 4 verse 5-9:

5.Get wisdom, get understanding; forget it not, neither decline from the words of my mouth.

6.Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee; love her, and she shall keep thee.

7.Wisdom is the principal thing, therefore get wisdom; and with all thy getting, get understanding.

8.Exalt her, and she shall promote thee; she shall bring thee honor when thou dost embrace her.

9.She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace; a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.”

also the book of Proverbs chapter 3 verse 13-19 stats:

13.Happy is the man that findeth wisdom and the man that getteth understanding;

14.for the merchandising of it is better than the merchandising of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold.

15.She is more precious than rubies, and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared to her.

16.Length of days is in her right hand, and in her left hand riches and honor.

17.Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.

18.She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her, and happy is everyone that retaineth her.

19.The Lord by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath He established the heavens;

From the above Bible text, I hope that you can begin to understand why I believe that wisdom and understanding are very necessary for one who strives for greatness, because when a great and effective door is opened, there are bound to be a lot of adversities manifesting them selves in all forms.

Moreover it is Wisdom and understanding that enables one to gain power, wealth, being able to say and do the right thing, or be at the right place at the right time. It is Wisdom that teaches us the importance of meekness, and prudence and so much more. So I can’t but emphasize this once more, and that is, for one to avoid being either disappointed, distracted or frustrated in life, wisdom is the principle thing, therefor get Wisdom.

So I guess that right now the one million dollar question is, “how does one get this wisdom?”. I would encourage you to read, the book of Proverbs. I recommend it as the best starting book for anyone who is seeking for wisdom because King Solomon was truly blessed with Gods wisdom.

However I would implore you to keep this in mind about wisdom, understanding and knowledge as written in the book of proverbs chapter 1 verse 7:

The fear of the lord is the beginning of knowledge

and nothing else.

Thanks for reading and Bless you in Jesus name.

Nonso B-Anyeji,

Merry Christmas.

Gods Love

What is love: Is it being sexually aroused?. Dose love only exist between a man and a woman, husband and wife, parent and child, within the Family, between friends? I don’t think so. I feel that the meaning of love, in my generation, has been so distorted that it has lost all resemblance to it’s true meaning. That’s if the true meaning of love was ever clear to begin with.

However, most people will claim to know the true meaning of love, which might actually be true. However, one only has to watch the TV for a while, listen to some of the latest love songs or Google love on the net to understand that 80-90%(conservatively estimated) of love related Topics, all have to do with sex, or being in a relationship. So, although most people would claim to know what true love is, one finds out that the reality of the situation, says something completely different. That is, we as a generation have absolutely no Idea what true love is.

When i say true love, I mean, “God kind of love”. The Love that our Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth must have had for us when he was tortured and crucified so that we can be born again and called sons of God. Even after all that the only thing Jesus found fit to ask for us from God the father on the Cross of Calvary was mercy for those who crucified him. Am talking about the love a man like Nelson Mandela must have possessed to be able to endure 27 years of hard labor in prison for doing the right thing and yet after he was released from Prison and elevated to being the most powerful man in South-Africa and beyond, his most important goal was to destroy the evil of racism in South-Africa an beyond through creating peace between the liberated South-Africans and the people who had subdued them in the past.

Why am I even writing this”: I asked my self: well, yesterday I heard a preaching from Bishop David Oyedepo. Although by now, I must confess that I have already forgotten most of what was preached. I found that a particular sentence stuck with me, which was “One can not love God if one can’t love his Brother”. So I started pondering and it occurred to me that, there was so much more to this Phrase than one can actually imagine. To me, it meant, that if one can not love ones brother, sister, friend, neighbor or just the person out there that one can see, touch, chat with, argue with and even laugh with, how was one then meant to, from the bottom of ones heart, love an almighty Entity, that can’t be seen or touched. This is so Mysterious that it gets scary.

So how is this meant to work out? “ I thought to myself. Is one supposed to spend ones whole time praying, fasting, reading the Bible, or Confessing Gods love? Then I remembered that the Bishop also said that Loving God is not Theoretical but Practical. But praying and etc. have nothing to do with loving ones Brother, I thought to myself. It also occurred to me that the meaning of Gods love is clearly stated in 1 Corinthians chapter. 13 verse 4-6 which is :

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.5.It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking,it is not easily angered,it keeps no record of wrongs.6.Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.7.It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Also the Bible states in Matthew Chapter 25 verse 31-40:

31.When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:32.And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:33.And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.34.Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:35.For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:36.Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.37.Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?38.When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?39.Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?40.And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

Now, all this Wisdom helped me come to the conclusion, that Loving God isn’t the ability to pray and fast for seven days straight, nor is It the ability to cram the whole Bible or to be Confessing Gods Love day in day out, 24/7. These all count, but at the end of the day they don’t equate to loving God. It’s only when we are able to love other Humans selflessly that we love God, because God himself appears to us through other fellow Human beings like ourselves.

May Jesus be with you and bless you for reading this,

Merry Christmas,

Nonso B-Anyeji

My New Blog

Hi everyone just started my Blog, hope you all check it out, and have fun reading.
